    • Rigging

    Sailboat rigging consists of the wires, ropes, and hardware used to support the mast and control the sails. It is divided into two main categories: standing rigging, which is fixed support, and running rigging, which is the adjustable control system. 

    Standing rigging

    Standing rigging is the fixed system of wires, rods, and fittings that supports the mast and spars against wind loads. For most modern sailboats, this is typically made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel.
     

    Running rigging

    Running rigging refers to the lines (ropes) used to adjust the position and shape of the sails. Modern running rigging is typically made from strong, low-stretch synthetic fibers like Dyneema or Dacron.
